Dr. Felice Gersh, MD
Chair · Obstetrics & Gynecology / Integrative Medicine
Dr. Felice Gersh is a globally recognized expert on women’s hormones, mitochondrial health, the gut microbiome, and circadian rhythm. She is the author of three bestselling books, a sought-after speaker on the faculties of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), the Cardiometabolic Health Congress, and Psychiatry Redefined, and has been named Physician of the Year by the Orange County Medical Association for sixteen years running. Her work goes beyond treating symptoms — she looks upstream, to the mitochondria that power every cell and the hormones that orchestrate the female body across every stage of life. It is this lens that has shaped her signature approach: treating PCOS, perimenopause, and menopause not as separate diagnoses, but as expressions of a single, lifelong continuum in women’s physiology. One of only a small number of American physicians board-certified in both OB-GYN and Integrative Medicine, she has built a career that brings rigorous science and deeply personal care into the same room. Today, she serves as Chair of LaraHealth Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr. Gersh earned her undergraduate degree at Princeton University and her medical degree at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She completed her OB-GYN residency at Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles, where she received the CREOG Top Resident Award — the national honor given each year to the country’s most outstanding resident — every single year of her training. Years later, she returned to academic medicine to complete the two-year Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona under Dr. Andrew Weil, the founder of the field. She emerged as one of the first physicians in the United States to hold dual board certifications in OB-GYN and Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Gersh opened her own practice in Irvine, California, and from the very beginning she built it around approaches that mainstream American medicine had yet to embrace — acupuncture, manual therapy, Chinese medicine — long before the word “integrative” entered the national conversation. Today, the Integrative Medical Group of Irvine she founded and directs stands as one of the country’s leading destinations for women seeking care that draws on the best of conventional, naturopathic, and holistic medicine, with particular depth in PCOS, perimenopause, menopause, autoimmune disease, and metabolic health.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr. Gersh taught Obstetrics and Gynecology for twelve years as Assistant Clinical Professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, shaping the next generation of OB-GYNs. Her students and colleagues returned the favor: she was honored with the school’s Outstanding Volunteer Clinical Faculty Award, one of Keck’s most distinguished recognitions. Today she has come full circle: she serves as an Affiliate Faculty Member at the University of Arizona’s Fellowship in Integrative Medicine — the same program from which she graduated — lecturing to current fellows and grading the case presentations that make up their final exams.
Dr. Gersh’s research has helped reframe how the field thinks about women’s health. For decades, the prevailing model treated the female body as a collection of separate organs producing isolated symptoms. Her work has dismantled that view. Across her writing and lectures, she has drawn out the deep connections between hormones, cellular energy, immune function, the gut microbiome, and the body’s biological rhythms — arguing, consistently, that women’s health can only be understood when these systems are seen together. That integrated perspective has made her one of the voices at the center of the ongoing rethinking of women’s health in international medicine.
She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and presents regularly at major international medical conferences; one of her papers was selected as a featured article in Mayo Clinic Proceedings, among the most prestigious journals in American medicine. Her three bestselling books — PCOS SOS, PCOS SOS Fertility Fast Track, and Menopause: 50 Things You Need to Know — have brought her work to both clinicians and a wide general readership. She speaks on the faculties of the A4M, the Cardiometabolic Health Congress, and Psychiatry Redefined, and is a frequent expert source for major American media outlets covering women’s health. She has also appeared as a featured expert in documentary series including The Real Skinny on Fat, Fasting, and The Business of Birth Control.
Dr. Gersh’s peers and her community have recognized her work in equal measure. Alongside being named Physician of the Year by the Orange County Medical Association sixteen years in a row, she has appeared year after year on the Southern California SuperDoctors list. She is also a respected medical forensic expert, regularly called on in complex, high-profile cases, and has spent years as a trusted voice for leading American media outlets reporting on women’s health.
Beyond her academic work, Dr. Gersh maintains ongoing scientific collaborations with several of America’s leading institutions in women’s health and longevity. As a member of the Pure Encapsulations Medical Advisory Board, she co-designed the PureWoman integrative women’s health protocol series — a clinician-facing body of work spanning menopausal support and cardiometabolic health — and has presented these protocols at Harvard Medical School and the Institute for Functional Medicine. She also advises L-Nutra on fasting-mimicking nutrition and works with OpenSource on developing clinical assessment protocols for women with PCOS. Within the international PCOS scientific community, she serves on the PCOS Challenge Medical & Scientific Advisory Board and is a member of the Androgen Excess & PCOS Society (AE-PCOS).
As Chair of the LaraHealth Scientific Advisory Board, Dr. Gersh helps shape the scientific foundation of the platform — deepening its life-stage model, building mitochondrial health into the core of its clinical thinking, and developing protocols tailored to each stage of a woman’s life, with a particular focus on PCOS and perimenopause.
